Week 1 July 2-5, 2018
Media and Information Literacy (MIL), defined as the ability to access, analyze, and create media, it is a prerequisite for citizens to realize their rights to freedom of information and expression. MIL is a combination of information literacy and media literacy. The purpose of being information and media literate is to engage in a digital society; one needs to be able to understand, inquire, create, communicate and think critically.
It is important to effectively access, organize, analyze, evaluate, and create messages in a variety of forms. The transformative nature of Media and Information Literacy includes creative works and creating new knowledge; to publish and collaborate and evaluates responsibly requires ethical, cultural and social understanding. The subject aims to target learning capacities to prepare students to be 21st century literate. According to Jeff Wilhelm (2000), "technology has everything to do with literacy. And being able to use the latest electronic technologies has everything to do with being literate.
On the first week of July, what has been done on the first meeting was that we made an opinion about a what if situation "If we're stuck in a deserted island and we must bring one thing what will it be?" we answered the question one by one since it is a graded oral recitation and the rule is that we must choose a thing that is not essential for survival but a thing that is closed to our heart. Meanwhile, when we were done explaining why we chose those things, Ms. Sualan explained and relates the question to the topic, that media is an open book that all of us are free to express our thoughts and opinions and all of us has different perspective or critics and all we need to do is to accept them, evaluate them and just make sure that it is reliable and accurate.
She also added that, media has its limit, so what goes around media, stay on media, don't go beyond because if you do so, you are not safe. On the second meeting which we had a double period, we have discussed about the whole chapter 1. It is all about the meaning or the importance of Media and Information Literacy, what are the things needed for you to consider an information and media literate, the 3 forms of media, and the 8 important functions of media. Then after that we had short oral recitation again with the questions "How much time do you spend with that medium everyday?, What are its features?, Do you consider yourself knowledgeable or media literate?" and to sum it up, we have learn the fundamental principles and purpose of this course or an introduction to the subject, its importance, purpose, and goals.

Week 2 July 16-20, 2018
For this week, we had a discussion and we tackled lesson 4 and it is all about shockvertising. We learned about how this advertisements could affect and what is the impact to the audience. Before watching a video, our teacher discussed about the different types of codes that are used in media just like techincal codes, symbolic codes, written codes and lastly audio codes. She also let us watch the video entitled "This is America" by Childish Gambino for us to recognize and analyze the symbolisms shown on the music video and and the truth behind the most powerful country in the world, the USA.
We also watched a video by Zach King in which he explained the different camera angles that can be used in making a video all by yourself. After the discussion we were tasked to make a promotional video that needs to include those codes used in media. It was kinda hard to think about how will it give an impact on the audience and how it can persuade them. Although it is a 30-second promotional video, we really need to have a lot of time on making it for it to be more effective. We learned a lot of this topic and we are so thankful to have a knowledge about this.

Week 3 July 23-27, 2018
Before this week, our teacher tasked to make a 30- seconds promotional video for Liceo de Cagayan University applying all the codes discussed by her from chapter four which is the "Does Media and Information Speak in Codes?" and of course, it was included in th discussion on how to understand each one of the codes. The whole class was able to see all the videos every group has made.In addition, during our double period on that thursday (July 19, 2018), we were given time to plan or prepare our documentary film that will be passed on the 17th of August.
The time she has given was really a big help for us to merge our ideas regarding it. We don't really aim that much to win as long as we can help raise awareness, then that is the main purpose. But if ever we'll win, it would be big binus to our class. It was really a busy week for us but we keep reminding ourselves to give our best in everything we do and that was all we did in MIL on the third week of July.

Week 4 July 30 - August 3, 2018
The 4th week has been so busy. Luckily, we have no discussions, seat works and assignments. Also we have lots of free time yet we faced a big responsibility which is the Class Documentary Film about social issues that can be linked to media and will serves as our Performance Task as well as our summative exam in Media and Information Literacy. On the first meeting, Ms. Sualan let us watch the 30-second promotional video to the class. After that she gave us the rubrics and the criteria of the documentary film and then left the class for us to brainstorm the plans and to choose the best topic for the documentary film to integrate that we really are an information and media literate.
On the second meeting, since we have a two-period for MIL, Ms. Sualan announced to us that the whole two period are allotted for the Documentary Film making, so that we can start the film and partly finish it as soon as possible. We used the time for distributing and assigning task individually, we choose directors, actors, location managers, researcher and etc.
Also we made an outline or a draft of the events/scenes of the film, we organize the sequence of all the scenes we will take, we have planned the content of our video and all the things needed to be done first before proceeding to the shooting of videos. We are so thankful that our teacher sacrificed and gave the time alloted for the discussion to the planning and making of our documentary film. The task given to us, tests how firm STEM 3 is. The challenge of how we make use of our time, how we work as a team/class and how we deal or we handle the circumstances and challenges in the journey of making the task. It also intensifies bondings and teamwork, tests individuals patience, and it also creates sense of leadership, initiative and willingness.

Week 5 August 6 - 10, 2018
For this week, in all our meetings for Media and Information Literacy, our teacher gave us the time to plan further for our documentary film to be passed on the 17th of August and it will serve as our performance task and summative exam for this subject. She went out and left us with our class president to contunue doing what needs to be done for us to dinish our documentary film. We used all the time given to plan what, where, when, should we continue to film our film. We brainstormed and later on merged our ideas for us to come up with a better outcome for our said activity. Though this activity may be a tough one for us but we assure that we will really do it.

On the first meeting in Media and InforMation Literacy for this week, we weren't able to have a discussion on that Monday (August 20, 2018) since it was interrupted by the Clean and Green Orientation. On the second meeting, since we have double period during Thursdays, we immediately made up for the time that our teacher were not able to give us a discussion. On August 30, 2018, on the first hour, we were shown a video about the technology that may arise on the year 2020.
The innovations that some people are working out now. After that, we were given a set of questions to be answered related to the said video and another set of questions relating to our next topic which is all about digital literacy and its role on our society. Right after we finished answering, our teacher called each one of us to answer the questions she has given us. She discussed to our class about what is digital literacy and digital citizenship, the different digital resources, and lastly the three competencies used in digital literacy. All of these were tackled on that day.

Week 9 September 10-14, 2018
On the second week of September, we, the STEM 3 were so busy with our lookalike contest for our Math-Science month and our teacher, Ms. Toni Sualan taught us a lot of things in being media and information literate because being media literate means being able to access, analyze, and evaluate information, which we receive through media. Being media literate means being able to create media messages and to use the technology tools available to us. It means being able to think critically and speak confidently.
Having a media literate society is the essence of having a democratic society and a market-based economy. It is the essence of having the ability to both enhance and protect our precious freedoms. It presumes that we, the people, are smart and capable and responsible. It reinforces that expectation that, if we are responsible, others should exercise responsibility, as well. It assumes that learning is a lifelong process that doesn't just take place through textbooks or in certain demographic areas.
